Project summary

HortoBike has been implemented in the Hortobágy high profile tourism development area. The aim of the project was to extensively implement cycling developments for the entire region, including both shoreline and backcountry settlements in the circulation.

The HortoBike project was implemented in the priority tourist development area of ​​Debrecen, Hajdúszoboszló, Hortobágy and Lake Tisza. Its goal is to implement cycling developments in the region - based on the cycling tourism of Lake Tisza - that encourage cyclists to explore additional destinations in the priority development area with their bicycles. We are trying to achieve the above goal with 4 cycling routes to be designated and signposted in the Lake Tisza - Hortobágy - Hajdúszoboszló - Debrecen area. Our goal was also to increase the volume and proportion of cycling tourism, as well as to reduce the spatial and temporal concentration, to expand basic services, to expand the tourist service options by focusing on the network of bicycle-friendly service providers, to provide comprehensive information, and to promote networking. Thanks to all of this, we can be proud of the direct results of the project: the signposted cycling routes and rest areas; with five cycling sub-centres equipped with equipment parks in Debrecen, Hortobágy, Sarud, Abádszalók and Berekfürdő; with an innovative mobile application and website that meets the needs of cyclists. As a result of the above, we expect an increase in the number of guest nights in the affected regions, both domestically and, hopefully, again with regard to foreign tourists as well. Thanks to the infrastructural developments, the Lake Tisza - Hortobágy - Hajdúszoboszló - Debrecen area can be enjoyed by cyclists all year round.
